"No Mow May" is designed to allow bees and other pollinators a chance to thrive as they come out of hibernation. Not mowing grass during this time ensures the pollinators have plentiful food sources with studies showing the number of pollinators in "No Mow May" areas have increased as much as five-fold.
The Saint Peter City Council has authorized the "No Mow May" program for May, 2023. Property owners who register to participate and display the City provided signage, are provided a waiver from the tall grass regulations of the City during the month of May. Noxious weeds, which are considered a nuisance, will still need to be removed.
- Residents who wish to participate must register with the City prior to May 1, 2023.
- Registered properties must display the NO MOW MAY signage provided by the City during the program period.
- Registration fee - $5.00 (cash or check only)
- Sign/stand deposit - $20 (cash or check only). This amount will be refunded as a credit on the property owner's utility bill upon return of the sign and stand in good condition.
- Participants in the program must bring their property into compliance by no later than June 12, 2023.
- To register, please go to the Saint Peter Police Department (207 South Front Street) or the Recreation and Leisure Services Department at the Community Center (600 South Fifth Street).
