Inspection Regulations

Scheduling Inspections:
Request inspections by calling the Building Department at (507) 934-0662 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm , Monday through Friday. To schedule electric inspections, contact the State Electrical Inspector Steve Kletschka at (507)334-3450 (Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. only).

Advanced Notice Required:
To facilitate scheduling, we ask that requests for inspections be made in advance as far as possible. Requests made before 12:00 p.m. each day will be scheduled that day as available. Requests made after 12:00 p.m. will not be scheduled until the following day. Please have the address, permit number, and type of inspection needed when making your request.


Required Inspections

Building Inspections
FOOTING: After footings are formed, setbacks are identified, and before pouring concrete.

FOUNDATION: After damproofing, and the installation of all exterior insulation and foundation drains are in place, and before any backfilling occurs.

FRAMING: After all rough electrical, plumbing and heating is approved and the roof is weather resistant.

INSULATION: After all insulation, wind wash, and vapor barriers are in place, and the roof is weather proof.

WALLBOARD: After all wallboard is installed and before joints and fasteners are taped and finished.

FINAL: After all final electrical, plumbing and heating is approved, the building is completed, and before occupancy. A Certificate of Occupancy for new buildings will be issued when all inspections have been approved and the inspection record is returned to the Building Department.

PLUMBING INSPECTIONS
UTILITY: After the water service and building sewer are connected, bedded, and tested, and before backfilling occurs.

UNDERGROUND: If applicable, when all work is complete and will stand the required tests, and before covering.

ROUGH: After all above grade work is complete and will stand the required tests, and before covering.

FINAL: After all fixtures are set and the completed system will stand the required tests.

HEATING INSPECTIONS
UNDERGROUND: If applicable, when all work is completed, insulated, and before covering.

ROUGH: After all above grade work is complete and before covering.

FUEL GAS PIPING: After all piping materials have been approved and tested, and before covering.

ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS
UNDERGROUND: If applicable, when all work is completed and before covering.

ROUGH: After all above grade work is complete and before covering.

FINAL: After all fixtures are set and the completed system will stand the required tests.

FIREPLACE INSPECTIONS
MASONRY ROUGH: After fire box, smoke chamber, and first section of flue is installed.

FIREPLACE ROUGH: After unit is installed, gas piping is into appliance, and flue and vent terminations are complete.

FIREPLACE FINAL: After all hearths, facing materials, and mantels are complete.
